Israel Adesanya’s next title defence, Alexander Volkanovski vs Max Holloway trilogy title fight confirmed for UFC 276

On July 2, 2022, UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski (24-1) will face former champ Max Holloway (23-6) in a trilogy fight.

The battle will take place as the co-main event at the UFC 276 pay-per-view event in Las Vegas, which will also feature Israel Adesanya defending his middleweight title against Jared Cannonier.

Adesanya (22-1) has only lost one fight in his UFC career, when he failed to defend his light heavyweight title in early 2021.

His fight with Cannonier (15-5) comes after the Texan native was named ‘Performance of the Night’ after defeating Derek Brunson at UFC 271. Cannonier has won five of his previous six fights, with his only loss coming at the hands of former champion Robert.

Volkanovski and Holloway had originally planned their trilogy fight for March this year, before Holloway unfortunately was forced to withdraw due to injury.

Volkanovski and Holloway had agreed to meet in a trilogy in March of this year, but Holloway was forced to withdraw due to injury.

Volkanovski, 33, dominated their last two fights, winning by unanimous decision in 2019 and a split decision in 2020.

The Australian is also undefeated since 2013, having won a fourth-round TKO over ‘The Korean Zombie’ Chan Sung Jung in April.

Holloway, meantime, has the opportunity to reclaim the featherweight title he held between 2017 and 2019 with recent victory over Yair Rodrguez and Calvin Kattar.

Sean Strickland vs. Alex Pereira and Miesha Tate vs. Lauren Murphy have also been named for the UFC 276 program.
